I tried to post this yesterday (as in 10 mins ago). But for some reason, I can’t post stuff on my laptop. I had to use another computer. Sorry for the delay.
And now….for the the post of the day
***************************************************************************************************************************************************
I’ve finally completed a writing challenge (namely, the 21 Day Writing Challenge made by the b-day girl, Laurine)!! YAYYYY.
Firstly, I have something to say to a very beautiful and passionate poet (plus she’s part of my Voices Merging family):
Happy Birthday Laurine!!! ^_^

Now for my last post. Like yestersday’s post, this one is a questionnaire for poets. I borrowed it from The Shiela Variations blog.
1. The first poem I remember reading/hearing/reacting to was
The first poems I remember reading were a series of Valentine’s Day poems by Jack Prelutsky. In my 3rd grade class, I would copy few of the poems onto my notebook. I hoped to read a Prelustky poem to my crush. Though it never happened, his poetry inspired me to love poetry.
Here’s an example of Prelustky poetry:
I love you more than applesauce,
Than peaches and a plum,
Than chocolate hearts,
And cherry tarts,
And berry bubble-gum.
I love you more than lemonade,
And seven-layer cake,
Than lollipops,
And candy drops,
And thick vanilla shake.
I love you more than marzipan,
Than marmalade on toast;
For I love pies
Of any size,
But I love you the most.
2. I was forced to memorize (name of poem) in school and……..
Actually, I had to memorize part of a Gwendolyn Brooks’ poem called “We Real Cool” for an after-school program during Black History Month. And it was fun acting out the parts!
3. I read/don’t read poetry because….
I read poetry because….I just love poetry. okay?! lol.
4. A poem I’m likely to think about when asked about a favorite poem is …….
“Rose that Grew from Concrete” by Tupac (this poem makes me think of all the underdogs that I met in life; society told them “They Can’t do it!”, but they blossomed anyways. Some did it with limited support or resources. )
5. I write/don’t write poetry, but…
I write poetry. It is a strong form of expression for an autistic person like me.
6. My experience with reading poetry differs from my experience with reading other types of literature…..
Not really. It doesn’t differ at all.
7. I find poetry…..
inspiring, fun, deep, comforting, narrative, and addictive.
8. The last time I heard poetry….
was at the Voices Merging open mic at the University of Minnesota. This was two weeks ago.
9. I think poetry is like….
reading a story. You picture and imagine things while you hear or read poetry, depending on how descriptive the poem is.
It seems like a lifetime ago where all I wrote was poetry. It is like the world’s cheapest form of personal counseling when you are able to get those, feeling, and emotions out on paper even camouflaging your pain so that others did not truly know what it was that made the words so sad, angry, bitter, or numb. Best of luck to you in your daily challenges.
